Pollution

Pollution

By: Finley Warren

Have you ever wondered what littering does to the environment? In the passages, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson it discusses the topic of littering and pollution. For example, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?”, it talks about how if we drink tap and use reusable water bottles instead of plastic water bottles, we could help the environment allot more. It also talks about how a woman makes art out of trash on beaches to help people to understand the harm done to ocean animals in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson. In this essay I will compare and contrast the two articles.

In the articles, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson, they main topic are very different but just as much the same. In this paragraph I will discuss how the two articles are similar. First of all, they both tell about something or even the topic that hurts the environment and what’s living in it. In “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?”, it talks about the fact that we manufacture 29 billion water bottles a year. This means that we also have to produce great amounts of fossil fuels. In the same way, the article, “Art for Ocean Animals” talks about the art pieces made out of garbage. All the trash used in the pieces of art are collected on the beach. These art pieces show that the ocean animals are hurt by water pollution. These two passages are also alike because in “Art for Ocean Animals” it is mainly about garage that hurts marine animals helps spread awareness. This garbage is created into sculptures that support helping marine life. In the same way, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” also talks about trash getting in the in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Although this article is mainly about about the debate for bottled water or from the tap, it also talks about plastic bottles getting in main water sources. For example it states, “Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate.” This is another reason why these topics are similar. Lastly, these two texts are alike because in they both discuss examples about how you help stop pollution in the two texts. This is because in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson, it says that Pozzi states,”kids have lots of power”, and she says talks about how kids can help this cause. In the same way, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke it gives an details about how you can drink from the tap instead of bottled water. This is why I thin the articles, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson are alike, although they are very different.

In the passages, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson, it talks about two different topics on pollution, and would be surprised how unalike these texts are. In this paragraph I will discuss how these articles are different from each other. For example, I noticed the fact that one is about helping marine life and another is about plastic water bottles. As you can see, they already don’t have much in common. This because although they both include water, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke, it is mostly about the plastic to make the bottle and how much pollution it creates. Unlike “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson,  it is all about the water that sea animals live in. Another reason  why these topics are different is because in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson it is mainly about how one adult helps with volunteers, and it doesn’t really talk about how kids can help other than a few sentences. In “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox, it talks about in general how much pollution it is giving off and a few changes you can make to help the environment on the topic. This is how I feel the passages, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson differ from each other.

In the articles, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson they are very similar, yet so different. I also feel that if I wanted to live on Earth, I would want it clean and less polluted than it already is. I feel that vast amount of people would like to help they just don’t know how. With articles like these, it could many people, including myself see how to help even with a small change such as using refillable water bottles. I don’t think people would want to live in a world without articles like these informing us how to help the environment. This is how I feel about the passages, “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson. This finishes up my pollution compare and contrast essay.

Rescue Dogs

Rescue Dogs Prompt

By: Finley Warren

Have you ever wondered about the different search and rescue dogs? In the passages, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, it discusses to different rescue dogs lives. In It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder, it talks about the how these intelligent dogs herd sheep. In “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le it discusses the dogs important  job of finding people buried in snow. In this essay I will compare and on contrast the two articles.

In the passages, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, the dogs are very different but are just as much alike. In this paragraph, I will explain why the dogs from the texts, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, are very similar in many different ways. For example, both assist humans in their line of work. This is because the border collie in “It’s a Dog’s Life” helps the human herd animals, (mostly sheep), and the dogs in “Hide-and-Seek-School” such as Rube, a golden retriever, it talks about  the dogs helping/finding people in the snow after an avalanche. The two passages, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le and the dogs in them, are similar because they are both good at what they do because in “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder, it says that it is very difficult to herd animals. One of the many reason why this is, is because when herding sheep, ducks, goats, and pigs, there is a certain distance the dogs have to stay away or else they will panic. The text also says that it is called a pressure point. In the same way, the dogs in the passage “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, find humans buried in snow after an avalanche. It takes dogs a couple minutes to do this but humans it can take long periods of time with many people helping to find the person. These dogs both also both need a break every ounce and a while. This is how the passages, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le and the dogs in the articles are similar.

In the articles, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, the dogs are very similar but have so many differences as well. For example, the dogs in “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn herd animals  and in this way they are helping humans. But this differers from the dogs in “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le because they are finding lost people after avalanches which makes them saving humans. They are also different because unlike the dogs in “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder the dogs in “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le they  swim, play, and relax during the summer but the dogs in the other story work whenever the animals need to be herded, yet they do get breaks by showing off to little children during visiting hours. The dogs are loving to the children but they also are working while they do this. They dogs in “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le do not do this. Lastly, the dogs and the articles are different because in “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, the dogs have different owners such as Rube’s owner Aaron Robbins, but in “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder, it seems to only be one owner owning all of the herding dogs. This is how I feel the texts, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, as well as the dogs in the two passages differer from each other.

Now as you can see, in the passages, “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Le, it really does talk about the the lives if rescue dogs. I personally think that rescue dogs are very helpful and are a part of  man kind today. Don’t you want  someone to save you if were buried in snow? I certainly don’t think people don’t what sheep running around. Think these amazing dogs  have very much made the world a better place. I feel that I shown you how they are helpful. This is the end of my rescue dog essay.

Should Pluto Be A Planet

Why I’m For Pluto

By Finley Warren

In the articles, “When Is A Planet Not A Planet” and “What Is A Planet”, it states that the classification (in 2006) of Pluto being a dwarf planet might not be correct. In this essay, I will talk about the fact that Pluto was a large disagreement behind the fact of whether or not it should be a planet. I strongly believe that Pluto should be reclassified as a planet because of the facts that it has a long history of being a planet and that fact that the definition of a planet isn’t perfect.

One of the reasons why Pluto should be reclassified as a planet is the fact that when the definition of a planet was made, it was unclear and not very perfect in general. I feel this because first of all, five hundred out of the ten thousand workers voted. Another reason to back this up is that some of the planets, including Earth, Mars, and Jupiter have not cleared their orbit of asteroids and are still classified as planets. This shows that the definition of a planet is not perfect because it says that it has to meet the standard of clearing its neighborhood, there is also the fact that it doesn’t say how clear the neighborhood as to be. This is just one of the main reasons why I strongly believe that Pluto should be a planet.

Another main reason why Pluto should be a planet is that it has been a planet for many years. Although Pluto is now classified as a planet, before 2006, it was a planet for more than 70 years. In order to update this one little fact, you would need to change all of science text books and museums. That’s a lot of money for one little fact! Going along with the fact that Pluto has been a planet for a long time, when the news spread in 2006 that Pluto was not a planet, the text in “When Is A Planet Not A Planet” states that schoolchildren demanded that Pluto stay a planet. As you can tell, it is not only about science but about the history of Pluto.

Now, after reading my essay with facts from the articles, “When Is A Planet Not A Planet” and “What Is A Planet” you can know what point of view I am coming from. The facts that Pluto is a part of history and that the definition of a planet is not perfect I think show that Pluto should become a planet again. In the article it even states that this was, “sloppy science”. This is why I strongly feel that Pluto should be reclassified as a planet and not a dwarf planet.

Week 21

This week was really cool. First of all, we had literacy night. All that day you dressed up like a superhero ,and when it came time for literacy night you could also dress up. I also read to little kids and got a book. To go along with literacy night, the class did a superhero mystery. This was fun!IMG_5546
